Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I Wish I Could Read Again For The First Time

It’s Tuesday again and over at The Broke and the Bookish that means it’s time for another Tuesday Top Ten! This week’s topic is  the Top Ten Books I Wish I Could Read Again For The First Time. There are so many books I’ve read that I adored and sometimes wish I could re-capture that first read magic over and over again.

1. Little House on the Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. This was my favorite book series as a kid and I was so young when I started them (my mom would read them to me) that I don’t remember what it felt like to read them for the first time. I guess some silly part of me thinks that by re-reading them I could capture a moment of my childhood again.

2. The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. Another set of books that I would love to re-read just to be able to experience the magical world Lewis created all over again. It’s now become so familiar that it doesn’t keep its mystic quality and I miss that about it.

3. Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn. I’ve read this book so many times now that when when I pick it up I find myself skimming more than actual reading. This was the book that got me completely 100% hooked on the Star Wars universe (and for those that know me, that’s kinda of a defining aspect of my personality) and I’ve love to experience that thrill again.

4. Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. I know that I just read this two weeks ago, but i LOVE this book. I read it all in one sitting and I’d love to read it again for the first time and go much more slowly. It would give me time to appreciate it more I think.

5. Troubling A Star by Madeline L’Engle. This is hands down, my favorite YA book of all time. My copy is old and worn and falling to pieces. I love the story and I’d love to be able to travel with Vicky to Antarctica and see it all with brand new eyes.

6. The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien. I read these way back in Middle School and I remember how fascinated I was by Tolkien’s world. It’s not become so normal to me that I wish I could experience Middle Earth all over again with brand new eyes.

7. The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley. This is one of my all-time favorite fantasy books and I’ve read it so many times my copy is falling apart.

8. The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffeneger. I love this book, but I hate reading it now because I know how it ends. I’d like to be able to re-read it without the knowledge of the ending hanging over me the entire time.

9. A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest Gaines. I love this book so much, it was my favorite book I read in high school. I think it’s wonderful and I’d love to be able to experience it for the first time as an adult. I think it would have an entirely different meaning.

10. The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling. These books are amazing and while I still enjoy a good re-read, I’d love to be able to read them again for the first time. To experience the magical world that Harry steps into. And then on the other hand, I’m not sure I want to because I’m not sure I could handle seeing the character deaths all over as if they were brand new. It might break me again.
